How to Pick Powerful Keywords

When you go to a search engine and try to find something, you type in a word or several words, and click the Search button. The search engine then looks in its index for those words. Suppose that you used the words SEO Expert. Generally speaking, the search engine will look for various things:

· Pages that contain the exact phrase SEO Expert
· Pages that don’t have the phrase SEO Expert, but do have the words SEO and Expert in close proximity
· Pages that have the words SEO and Expert somewhere, though not necessarily close together
· Pages with word stems; for instance, pages with the word SEO and the word Expert somewhere in the page
· Pages that have links pointing to them, in which the link text contains the phrase SEO Expert
· Pages with links pointing to them with the link text containing the words SEO and Expert, although not together.

In my personal view we can target 1 to 2 keywords per page to get good results in major search engine such as Google, Msn and Yahoo, Now a days most of the SEO people is targetting keyword phrase for their website because of short term goals.

There are 2 types of keywords like long tail keywords and short tail keywords, according to out business needs and client requirement we have to target those keywords to get good results.
